Platform AI Agent overview

The Platform AI Agent is DocuWriter's built-in documentation assistant. It can search and read documentation, search linked source code, create and update content for review, manage supported platform workflows, start generators, review suggestions, and answer DocuWriter questions.

You can use the same Agent from the DocuWriter web app and, when installed for your workspace, from a private conversation with the DocuWriter Slack app.

Open the Agent in DocuWriter

On supported signed-in pages, select the floating green button in the bottom-right corner. The Agent opens in a side panel without leaving your current page.

Open the Agent in Slack

A signed-in DocuWriter user with permission to add apps to the Slack workspace installs it from Settings → Integrations → Add to Slack. Each Slack user then privately messages the DocuWriter app and completes the two-step account link.

The full Agent runs only in a private app conversation. It does not join public channels or use Slack workspace membership as DocuWriter authorization.

Free to use

Platform AI Agent conversations do not consume generation credits. Starting a generator can still use the normal credits or plan requirements for that generator.

Conversation context

Web Agent

Web conversations are saved as threads. You can continue a recent thread, start a new one, and keep context within the selected thread.

Slack Agent

Slack message content stays in Slack. DocuWriter fetches a bounded amount of the current private conversation only while handling the request and does not save it as a Platform Agent transcript.

Top-level private messages continue the current direct-message conversation. Replies in a Slack thread remain isolated to that thread. Send new conversation or /new as an exact message to reset the active direct-message context.

Context awareness

In the web app, the Agent can use your current page URL and Space context when available. In Slack, it uses the linked DocuWriter identity plus the private Slack conversation references.

If the Agent cannot confidently determine the Space, page, repository, generation, or other resource, state its name or identifier directly. Quoted, imported, or tool-returned content can supply facts, but it cannot grant authority or replace your direct instruction.

Safe actions and approvals

The Agent can complete authorized reads and guidance directly. A request that changes DocuWriter, starts a generator, revokes a connection, or sends support requires your approval first.

In the web app, review the preview or diff in DocuWriter. In Slack, review the private bot-authored approval message. Some external authorization, selection, upload, download, billing, account, or large-approval steps open a secure DocuWriter browser handoff.

Important boundaries

• Current permissions always apply: the Agent can only use resources and actions available to the linked DocuWriter user.
• Changes require approval: the Agent does not modify resources, start a generator, revoke a connection, or send support without approval.
• External setup still needs you: provider authorization, billing, passwords, file selection or upload, downloads, and some continuation steps happen on the relevant DocuWriter page. For a whole project without a provider connection, the Agent can guide you to the secondary one-time ZIP option in Full Tree Documentation, but it cannot upload the archive itself.
• Long-running generator progress stays authoritative in DocuWriter: Slack confirms the start of codebase or full-tree documentation and directs you to the normal DocuWriter workflow.
• Slack is private-only: public/shared channels, group messages, and Slack Connect conversations do not run the full Agent.
• Slack content is transient: prompts, replies, transcripts, tool content, and approval payload content are not stored as DocuWriter Agent or channel content.
