Connect a Git repository

Connect a Git provider when you want documentation based on repository code and the option to maintain it as that code changes.

Connect and import

  1. Open Git Connections.
  2. Choose your provider and complete its authorization or token setup.
  3. Confirm the provider appears connected.
  4. Select Add Repository, choose the repository and enter the exact branch.
  5. Create the connection and wait for Code Imported before using it in an imported-repository workflow.

The provider account must be able to read the selected repository. Organization authorization rules can restrict access even when you can view the repository in your own browser.

Provider guides

  • GitHub: OAuth for repository workflows and the GitHub App for supported Autopilot flows.
  • GitLab: hosted GitLab and the separate setup for self-hosted instances.
  • Bitbucket: authorize the correct account and workspace.
  • Azure DevOps: organization, project and token access.

You can connect more than one provider. Check both the repository identifier and branch when similarly named projects appear.

After the import

Select the repository in Full Tree Documentation or a focused repository generator. To maintain an existing Space, configure its Autopilot repository link.

Removing an imported repository from DocuWriter is not deleting the remote Git repository. Revoking provider access is broader: workflows relying on that authorization may stop until you reconnect.

If authorization is unavailable, consider a project ZIP. If the import fails or the repository is missing, use connection troubleshooting.
