Use DocuWriter in Slack

Use the Platform Agent in a private conversation with the DocuWriter Slack app. The linked DocuWriter account controls access to documents and actions; membership in a Slack workspace does not grant DocuWriter permissions.

  1. Open Settings → Integrations in DocuWriter and select Add to Slack.
  2. Choose the workspace and approve installation using an account allowed to install Slack apps.
  3. Open the DocuWriter app in Slack and send a private message.
  4. Follow the secure linking URL, sign in to DocuWriter, and confirm the account in the browser.
  5. Return to the original Slack conversation and confirm the masked account details.

Installation and user linking are separate. Each person completes their own link. If the link expires, begin again from a private message. A Needs attention installation may need reinstallation to restore required Slack permissions.

Ask and review

Try: “Search our documentation for SSO setup,” or “Read the deployment guide.” For a change, ask for a specific update and review the approval message before selecting Approve or Reject. Account access, workspace policy, and the current resource are checked again before execution.

Top-level private messages use the active direct-message conversation. Replies in a Slack thread retain that thread’s context. Send new conversation or /new as an exact message to reset the active direct-message context. Resetting the conversation does not cancel an action already underway.

Use Stop, or an exact stop or cancel message, while a request can still be stopped. If an external action may already have happened, check its confirmed result before retrying. Long-running documentation generation can hand you back to DocuWriter to inspect progress.

Privacy and team controls

DocuWriter retrieves private Slack conversation content as needed for the request rather than storing it as a persistent Slack transcript in DocuWriter. Operational metadata is retained for linking, run state, approvals, and delivery tracking. This does not mean content avoids AI processing or that Slack and AI-provider retention policies disappear. Documents and generations created by an approved action follow ordinary product retention, and approved support requests have their own delivery handling.

Team owners can restrict Agent capabilities, changes/generators, and support requests in Settings → Integrations → Slack, and choose integration-metadata retention of 1, 7, 14, or 30 days. The default is 30 days. These controls reduce access; they cannot expand a member’s DocuWriter permissions.

The full Agent runs in private app conversations, not public channels, shared private channels, group messages, or Slack Connect.

Disconnect or troubleshoot

Disconnect the linked account in Slack integration settings to stop future delivery to that identity and cancel pending Slack approvals. Existing product documents are not deleted. Uninstalling the app removes the workspace installation; reinstalling requires users to link again.
