Prepare an n8n workflow template for sharing
A useful template lets another team reproduce one clear result without inheriting your account details, credentials, or production destinations. Package a workflow only after you have tested its complete path with sample inputs.
Describe the outcome and prerequisites
Give the template a task-oriented name, such as “Generate a documentation draft from a repository push.” State the trigger, supported input, DocuWriter operation, and destination. List the credentials users must create themselves and whether generation consumes credits.
Explain which repository, branch, path filters, Space identifiers, and notification destinations must be changed. Distinguish required configuration from optional enhancements. Include a small sample input and describe the expected output.
Sanitize the exported workflow
Export the workflow from n8n and inspect the JSON before sharing it. Remove secrets, personal addresses, private repository names, internal URLs, customer source code, pinned execution data, and production webhook destinations. Replace organization-specific values with clear placeholders.
Keep the workflow inactive by default and require the recipient to select their own credentials. Do not rely on an empty credential selector alone: inspect node parameters and example data as well.
Test the imported copy
Import the sanitized file into a separate workflow, configure test credentials, and execute one sample event. Confirm that it produces the documented result and does not send messages or write to the original destinations. Check the failure path for missing input or an unavailable destination.
Submit or share
For n8n’s public template library, follow the submission process linked from the n8n workflow library. Acceptance and publication are controlled by n8n; exporting a workflow does not publish it. For a DocuWriter-specific integration issue or proposed example, use the integration repository and include a sanitized reproduction.
Maintain the template when operation fields or external integrations change. Keep setup steps alongside the exported workflow so users do not need to reverse-engineer its configuration. See workflow patterns for choosing a focused example.
