Connect VS Code
Connect VS Code’s MCP-enabled assistant to DocuWriter to search and maintain documentation from your editor. Your VS Code account and organization must allow the assistant and MCP servers you intend to use.
Add workspace configuration
Create or update .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"docuwriter": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://app.docuwriter.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
VS Code uses the top-level servers key. Keep any existing entries. Start the server using VS Code’s MCP controls, trust the configuration when appropriate, and complete the DocuWriter OAuth flow. The VS Code MCP guide explains server management and user-level alternatives.
Verify retrieval
Open a chat mode that can call tools and enable DocuWriter tools. Ask: “List my DocuWriter Spaces with IDs.” Next ask it to read a known page from a selected Space. A successful response identifies the requested documentation rather than returning a general answer about DocuWriter.
Use it during a feature change
Ask: “Find the documentation for this module in Space 123. Summarize the public API before I change it.” After editing, ask for a draft update to the named page. Make clear whether the assistant should propose or apply the change.
If the server is present but tools cannot be called, check workspace trust, organization policies, selected chat mode, and tool selection. If OAuth opens the wrong account, reconnect using the account with access to your team’s Spaces. Do not add manual API-token headers to solve an OAuth problem.
Continue with the MCP capability reference for generation prerequisites, document management, and browser handoffs.
