Connect ChatGPT or Codex

Use the remote DocuWriter MCP server to bring your documentation into ChatGPT or Codex. Authorize the DocuWriter account that owns or can access the Spaces you need.

Codex CLI

Add the server and complete OAuth login:

codex mcp add docuwriter --url https://app.docuwriter.ai/mcp
codex mcp login docuwriter
codex mcp list

Return to your Codex session and ask: “Use DocuWriter to list my Spaces with IDs.” Follow with a read-only search before asking for edits. Codex also supports MCP configuration through its settings; see OpenAI’s MCP guide for the configuration surface used by your installation.

ChatGPT

For a custom connection, use a ChatGPT account/workspace that permits developer-mode apps. Enable Developer mode in Settings → Security and login, then open the Plugins surface and create a developer-mode app with:

• Name: DocuWriter
• Remote MCP URL: https://app.docuwriter.ai/mcp
• Authentication: OAuth

Complete browser authorization, then select the app in your conversation’s Developer mode tools. Ask ChatGPT to list your DocuWriter Spaces. This custom setup does not require a public marketplace listing. Workspace administrators may control whether custom apps are available. OpenAI’s developer-mode instructions describe current eligibility and controls.

A useful first workflow

Ask: “Find the onboarding documentation for our payments service. Read the relevant pages and summarize the setup steps with links.” Once the answer cites the intended documents, you can ask for a proposed improvement to a named page.

If tools are missing, check that the app/server is selected for this conversation and refresh its tool list. If authorization fails, reconnect to the remote endpoint through OAuth. Do not paste an API token into chat. Review MCP capabilities for operations that require a browser handoff.
