Connect GitLab

For repositories on GitLab.com, authorize GitLab from Git Connections and then import the repository and branch you want to document.

GitLab.com

  1. Select Connect GitLab.
  2. Use the GitLab account that has access to the project and complete authorization.
  3. Back in DocuWriter, add the repository and choose its branch.
  4. Wait until the import is ready before starting a repository-backed generator.

Group membership and project permissions determine which repositories the connected account can access. If a repository is missing, verify its visibility to that account and check group authorization policies.

A company-hosted GitLab instance

Use Connect self-hosted GitLab. This requires your instance URL and an OAuth application configured on that instance. A GitLab.com connection does not authorize access to a separate company server.

Maintain documentation after generation

Once the documentation is in a Space, set up an Autopilot repository link for the correct project and branch. Provider authorization, importing code and enabling event-driven maintenance are separate steps.

When a connection stops working after token or permission changes, reconnect through Git Connections and confirm the project can be selected again. Keep your existing Space while resolving access; creating another Space does not repair provider authorization.
