Connect Claude Code

Connect Claude Code to the remote DocuWriter server to search documentation while working in your repository.

Add and authorize

With Claude Code installed, run:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user docuwriter https://app.docuwriter.ai/mcp
claude mcp list

User scope makes the connection available across your projects. Use project scope when the configuration should belong to one shared project; each user still authorizes their own account.

Start Claude Code, enter /mcp, select DocuWriter, and complete the browser authentication flow. Sign in to DocuWriter and approve the connection. No manual bearer token is needed. See the Claude Code MCP documentation for client configuration and authorization controls.

Confirm which account and Space you are using

Ask: “List my DocuWriter Spaces with their IDs.” Then: “Search Space 123 for deployment and read the matching guide.” Replace 123 with an ID returned by DocuWriter. The result should come from the selected Space, not a guess based on your local repository name.

Document a local change

A useful request is: “Compare this code change with the deployment guide in DocuWriter. Show the documentation changes you recommend before saving anything.” Claude can inspect local code using its own capabilities and use DocuWriter tools for documents. The remote MCP server does not automatically read your local disk merely because you connected it.

For a new generation, provide the actual code or identify an already imported repository and the requested output. Generation can consume credits. The capability reference explains repository prerequisites.

Troubleshooting

If authentication is required, return to /mcp and reconnect. If the server is configured but unavailable in a project, check its scope and project trust settings. If a page is missing, verify the authorized DocuWriter account and Space access before changing the configuration.
